Monday, June 29th-Fells Point and Star Spangled Banner National Trail

Arrival: 7:30am
Latest drop off: We will leave at 9:30am on our walk along the Star Spangled Banner Trail. We should get back to school around 4:30.
Pickup: 5:30pm
Lunch: Pack a lunch, pick up a lunch at the school cafeteria, or bring $10-$15 to buy lunch at the Inner Harbor. Campers can also bring +$6 to buy Rita's.
Supplies: swimsuit, towel sunscreen, water bottle, pencil
Agenda:At 9:30am we will begin our walk along the Star Spangled Banner Trail. The trail covers much of the Chesapeake Bay Region, but we will be walking through Patterson Park to Fells Point and end up in the Inner Harbor. Along the way we will learn about the War of 1812, The Battle of Baltimore as well as show the campers where many of them will be enjoying a new water trail in the harbor they will be exploring on a kayak this fall through a new special program with the NPS.
Tuesday, June 30th-Assateague Island
Arrival: 7:00 AM BUS DEPARTS
Latest drop off: We will leave at 7:00am to arrive at Assateague Island National Seashore by 10am. We should be back at the school around 5pm.
Lunch: Pack a lunch (there will not be a place to buy a lunch at the National Park)
Supplies: swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, water bottle, pencil, change of clothes,
Agenda: At 7am we will depart for Assateague Island and will arrive there at 10am. Our adventure will begin at their Visitor's Center where we will learn from the park rangers about the four distinct ecosystems on this barrier island. From there we will travel to the "bay side" of the island. We will explore the bay by wading out into the water looking for clams and other wildlife. The deepest the water gets is knee high. Afterwards we will travel to the "ocean side" of the island and enjoy our lunch on the sand with a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean. The students will be allowed to play along the shore in the sand but we will not be swimming in the ocean. We hope to be able to see many animals in their natural habitat including the famous wild horses!

Thursday, July 2nd Antietam National Battlefield

Agenda: At 8am we will depart for Antietam Battlefield in Sharpsburg, MD. There we will learn about the bloodiest one day in America's history that was part of our Civil War. We will also explore the environment and ecosystems of what many people feel is the most well preserved battlefield in the entire country. Our visits here and Philadelphia will also help our students with their studies in 8th grade.

Agenda:At 8am we will write thank you letters to everyone who has donated to us this year. From there we will walk to the Inner Harbor where we will be meeting with a very special guest and discuss why it is so important for our students to be stewards of our city. We will eat lunch, cool off in the fountains, and head back to the school for a 4:30 arrival.
